Pelikan, Irene A. (nee Vadas), 89, of Parma, Ohio passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 12, 2011. Beloved wife and caring companion for 69 years of Aloysius (Lou). Daughter of the late Andrew and Barbara Vadas of McKeesport , PA. Loving mother of James (Rebecca Brady), Thomas (Marilyn) and John (Mary). Grandmother of Carlotta Pelikan (Hector Cabrera), Christine Pelikan-Wehling (Greg), Sara Pelikan, Mathew LoParo (Jill), Robert LoParo (Michael Pack), Mathew Pelikan (Holly), Cynthia Pelikan, Dorothy Mallona (Martin) and Jacenta Pelikan. “Cookie grandma” to 13 great grandchildren: Sofia, Alex, Isabel, Ava, Liam, Audrey, Michael, Serena, Prascu, Rafael, Tessa, Xavier and Natalie. Youngest of 10 siblings and faithful aunt to her many nieces and nephews. The family would like to offer sincere thanks to the staff of Mount Alverna Village who were, not only care givers, but friends. Irene will be missed by the many people who shared her life.
Funeral Mass Friday, February 18, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at St Charles Borromeo Church, 5891 Ridge Road, Parma, OH 44129. Family will receive Friends at Zabor Funeral Home, 5680 Pearl Road, Parma, OH 44129 from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. on Thursday February 17, 2011.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Community of L’Arche Cleveland at PO Box 20450 Cleveland, Ohio 44120 or St. Charles Borromeo Parish (address above).
Internment at a later date at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.

I have such fond memories of Irene and her family. We were neighbors when I was just a boy. Irene and her family helped us through a difficult time when my own mother passed away. I send my prayers and thoughts to all the Pelican family.
