GETZ, George Jr.

GETZ, George Jr.

George GETZ Jr., age 73, passed away suddenly on December 16, 2019.  Devoted husband of Joanne (nee Zebris) for 48 years; loving father of Matt (Mickie) and Kristen (Mark) Murphey; beloved Papa of Marian, Marcus, Jacob and Colton.  Preceded in death by his parents, George Sr. and Betty Getz, and brother Robert (Linda).

George enjoyed a successful 36.5 year career at Union Carbide / GrafTech International that included several US Patents and concluded in retirement in 2003.  George shared his passion for music with everyone through the years, playing in several bands and willing to play a polka for any gathering.  Boating and fishing were a fundamental part of his lifestyle, owning several boats and soaking up the marina life.  George was very talented at a full range of home improvement projects, and was known for his innovative methods for solving any problem.  George freely gave of his time and talents to many ministries at Church, most significantly with the St. Vincent De Paul Society.  Those who have met George will seldom forget his gregarious approach to life.  In the words of George, let’s all share a toast to a good life and proclaim “nice driveway”!

Please meet the family at church for the Mass of Christian Burial at St. John Bosco Church, 6480 Pearl Road, Parma Heights, Monday, December 23, 10:00 AM.  Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery.  Friends may call at Zabor Funeral Home, 5680 Pearl Road, Parma, 44129, Sunday, December 22,  from 1 – 5 PM.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. John Bosco.

Messages of Condolence

  1. Dear Joanne and family,

You have my deepest sympathy at the passing of your beloved husband and father. I was privileged to meet George through his untiring work with the St. Vincent de Paul Society. George lived his Vincentian vocation. He served faithfully and fairly always giving a helping hand to those in need. I am sure he was greeted with a “well done my good and faithful servant”. May he Rest In Peace and may you find consolation in his love and Our Father’s Love.

  2. To Joanne & family
So saddened to hear about The loss of your devoted husband, George, I will always remember the fun times we shared at our godchild Anna’s Birthday parties and other family events. You will be in our thoughts and prayers.

  3. Dear Joanne and family,

So sorry to hear of George’s passing. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Keep all those good memories close to your heart to comfort you. Sending you all hugs.

  4. My heart goes out to the family. Remembering many fun times with George & Joanne: fishing (not always catching) twilight at the zoo (lots of cocktails there) meeting at the Peach, Polka, Pierogi & Perch Festival (always a toe tapper) dinners at Carrie Cerino’s (George had lots of jokes & comments) and so many others. God took a good one!

  5. Dear Joanne and family,
George was a great neighbor…fun loving, caring, giving. The years have gone by quickly; but, some of our best memories go way back to couples softball and coaching T-ball with George. And, now that he has rounded third and headed home, I am reminded that George always played the game and lived his life the right way: “They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal reward.” 1 Corinthians 9-25
Our good Lord has now certainly rewarded George as he has successfully completed his journey back to God.

  6. Joanne. Carol and I are sorry to hear of your lose. Enjoyed working with George and we will remember him for his music at our company get togethers. We will keep you and the family in our prayers.

    Bob s.
